Vijay Varma claims that Shah Rukh Khan wanted to play Hamza in Darlings and knows the reason why he didn’t.
In the highly acclaimed black comedy Darlings by Jasmeet K. Reen, Vijay Varma portrayed a threatening and violent husband. The Gully Boy actor received plaudits for both his realistic performance and for picking a movie that highlights domestic violence in India.
Vijay Varma recently disclosed that Shah Rukh Khan, who co-produced the movie with Alia Bhatt, expressed interest in playing the role of Hamza if he were young.
“I remember someone had told me that when Shah Rukh read the script, he said, ‘Agar main young hota toh main hi karta (If I was younger, I would’ve done this role)’, which was amazing for me to hear,” Vijay Varma stated in a conversation with Film Companion.
Another reason I believed I could play this role was because Shah Rukh Khan, who is a total darling and lover-boy, believes he can. Naturally, I was apprehensive about taking on a job like this, but I’m delighted it was so accurate.
